Privacy statement

I collect as little personal data as I can, only use it for the purpose I asked it for, and never sell it or add you to a marketing list. This page explains what that means in practice.
Who is responsible
Martijn van Asseldonk runs martijnvanasseldonk.com and is responsible for the personal data described here (the “controller” under the GDPR). For any question or request about your data, use the contact form.
What I collect and why
Contact form
- WHAT
- Your name, email address, the topic you pick and your message.
- WHY
- To read and answer your message.
- LEGAL BASIS
- Taking the steps you ask for, and my legitimate interest in answering questions about my work.
- HOW LONG
- The message is stored in the website’s database, so it cannot get lost, and a copy is emailed to me. I delete it when it is no longer relevant to our contact, at the latest two years after our last contact.
Early access list for The What Gap
- WHAT
- Your name and email address.
- WHY
- To email you when The What Gap launches. That is the only email you will get from this list.
- LEGAL BASIS
- Your consent, which you give by signing up. You can withdraw it at any time.
- HOW LONG
- Until the launch email has gone out, after which the list is deleted. If you ask to be removed earlier, I delete your details straight away.
Expert review of The What Gap
- WHAT
- Only if I invited you as an expert: the name I gave your personal review link, your area and years of expertise, your answers and your comments. Until your answers are saved on the server, a copy is also kept in your own browser.
- WHY
- To check whether the questions measure what they are meant to measure, and to improve them.
- LEGAL BASIS
- Your consent, which you give by taking part. You can stop or ask me to delete your answers at any time.
- HOW LONG
- Until the questionnaire has been validated. After that I keep only anonymised answers, without your name. Your name is never published without asking you first.
Website statistics
- WHAT
- Which pages are visited, how visitors arrive, the type of device and browser, the country, and clicks such as opening a tool or joining the early access list. I use Vercel Web Analytics, which does not use cookies, does not follow you across other websites and only shows me aggregated numbers.
- WHY
- To understand which content and tools are useful, and to improve the site.
- LEGAL BASIS
- My legitimate interest in anonymous statistics about how the site is used.
- HOW LONG
- Only as aggregated statistics, which cannot be traced back to you.
Hosting and security
- WHAT
- Technical data that every website receives, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request.
- WHY
- To deliver the website to you and protect it against abuse.
- LEGAL BASIS
- My legitimate interest in a working and secure website.
- HOW LONG
- In the hosting provider’s logs, for a short period.
Cookies and local storage
This site does not use tracking or advertising cookies, so there is no cookie banner. If I invited you as an expert, the review page keeps your progress in your browser’s local storage so nothing gets lost when the connection drops. The only cookie is set for me, when I sign in to manage the expert review. You can delete local storage through your browser settings at any time.
Who processes data for me
I use these service providers. They process data only on my behalf and under a data processing agreement:
- Vercel: hosting of this website and anonymous statistics.
- Neon: the database for contact messages, the early access list and the expert review.
- Resend: delivering contact form messages to my mailbox.
Vercel and Resend are based in the United States. Where data leaves the European Economic Area, it is protected by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
Links to other websites
This site links to other services, such as the Team Boosters tools, my booking calendar (Google Calendar), LinkedIn and X. Their own privacy statements apply once you are there.
Your rights
You can ask me to see, correct or delete your personal data, to limit how I use it, or to receive it in a format you can take elsewhere. You can object to processing based on my legitimate interest, and withdraw consent at any time. Send your request through the contact form; I will answer within one month.
If you think I handle your data incorrectly, please let me know first. You also have the right to file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Changes
When I change how I handle personal data, I update this page and the date at the top.
